Bowie the Cat

My friend Jusania asked me to make a posthumous portrait of her cat, Bowie. She’d named him Bowie because he had two different colored eyes. He passed away the same date as David Bowie, too, only six years earlier.

My portrait has a very Ziggy Stardust-inspired background. However, it’s also a comment on the indescribable spiritual affect animals play in the lives of humans. The relationship we have with our pets is nothing like those we have with each other. How can a bond so strong exist without a shared language?

I try not to analyze it too much. I don’t want to ruin the emotion. And I want to imagine the spirits of our pets at peace, in a fantastic place, and hope they never forget us.
